TIMELINE PERIOD: Prior to the main events in .hack//sign, right after Crim decides that he is leaving the Crimson Knights.

BACKGROUND: In the beginning, Subaru was shy and felt unwanted in her World. She spent all of her time wondering around small towns. Because of her odd behavior, she attracted the attention of other players who wanted to take advantage of her inexperience in the world. After a long while, about to give up on exploring the world, she met a man named Crim who taught her to stand up for herself. He told her that with bad people come the good ones who will want to be friends and be happy with her. Together, they formed an organization called the Crimson Knights whose purpose was to bring order and peace to the world.

Lady Subaru is a kind hearted girl, but as tough as nails when it comes to her own views and the people she cares about. She is not entirely trusting, judging from her previous encounters with other people in the world. From years of experience leading the Crimson Knights, she holds herself strongly, confidently and with respect. Some things can still drag her down, though. She is a heavy axeman and is rarely seen without her weapon in hand, a strong warrior. She is often the voice of reason and peace, a person who wants all to be happy, but certain things have changed…

The World which she calls home is actually an incredibly high tech MMORPG. A virtual reality. A young woman named Mariko Misono joined the World to give herself a chance to be able to walk around freely in a different world like everyone else. Due to the Pluto’s Kiss virus, she was in a terrible car accident and became paraplegic. She created the character Lady Subaru in order to enjoy the World, and formed the Crimson Knights, becoming a sort of system moderator for the World, commanding the largest disciplinary force it had ever seen with the help of a man named Crim. As time moved on, Crim began to develop feelings for Subaru, and ultimately decided to detach himself from the Knights he had founded permanently. And at the moment he divulged this information to her, Subaru blacked out.

When she awakened, she found herself lying on the deck of a ship, a book and pen next to her. In her memory, she was Lady Subaru and no one else. Her World was the only one she had ever known. She was the leader of the Crimson Knights and nothing more. And her memory only stretched back a few years, blacking out periodically and having no recollection of a place called Japan or the girl she once was. After asking many questions that went unanswered and arriving upon land, she decided to write in the strange book. Oddly enough, it spoke back. Through this, she discovered that she was in a strange World called Rivelata. Such a thing gave her the opportunity to be introduced to a young man named Lelouch Lamperouge. After helping him take care of his sister, Euphie, they became quite the close companions. And over time, the two fell deeply in love with each other. Together, they became new sorts of people. They opened up new emotions to each other, [insert pornelata link here *nervous cough*]

Through the chaos that was Rivelata, all was well for the two… until someone new came to disrupt their contentment. The witch C.C. found herself in Rivelata and was not pleased with the condition she found her warlock in: happy, in love, and not the man Zero who was on his way to conquer his own world. And as to be expected, there was some abrasion between C.C. and Subaru. Over time, as C.C. continued to take back her Zero, this only became worse, until finally the Lady Subaru could no longer recognize the man she loved.

During her time in Rivelata, Subaru made a decision. She was no longer going to be the one protected, but put her energy toward being the protector. To learn hand-to-hand combat, she trained with her dear friend Max. With much strain and practice, she was able to regain her abilities and level them. The time spent in the new world made her strong physically, emotionally, and gave her a new purpose for living. And when that purpose was at stake, she made a grave decision. With hopes to speak to Zikhadhara and obtain answers, she traveled into the jungle. This was the last anyone saw of her.
